Gonstead Chiropractic Adjustments
Gonstead technique in adjusting is focused on restoring intervertebral disc, alignment, efficient motion, and optimizing nerve function. Modification through Dr. Gonstead was made on the chiropractic adjustment so that each person’s unique spine was accommodated.
Gonstead method of adjustment helped to use less twisting, which was the tendency for most chiropractic techniques. Gonstead method used specific force application that used less force but used spinal anatomy to assist in the chiropractic adjustment force to a gentle correction.
Functional Analysis: Breathing Patterns
Functional Analysis utilizes your breathing patterns and how you walk and move to determine the most appropriate places to treat, not just pain. Reconnecting your body with your brain is one of our main goals. Voluntary control of breathing utilizes neural activity bilaterally in the primary sensory and motor cortices, supplementary motor area, cerebellum, thalamus, caudate nucleus, and globus pallidum. Activity within the medulla suggests that the brainstem respiratory centers may have a role in mediating the voluntary control of breathing in humans. By analyzing breathing mechanics, the chiropractor will have an observable clinical window into the state of the patient’s brain stem, cerebellum, and midbrain/cortex. The close relationship between respiration and motor system is shown in what may be called “respiratory synkinesis.”
To develop efficient neurological function through the adjustment to the correct segments that is in efficient balance in motion. To do this, as chiropractors we must analyze, test, adjust/correct/treat then retest and rehab balance in motion, not in stillness.
Computerized Chiropractic Examinations
We will perform a computerized sEMG test, which determines muscle balance, which is extremely important because the vertebrae in the spine depend on the muscles to move properly. If one or more vertebrae are out of their normal position, it disturbs nerve function. The abnormal muscle pattern on the scan reveals an increased amount of tension/pull to one side.
The Heat Index scan provides us with information to monitor the autonomic system for proper function. Your skin is the largest organ of the body and the blood vessels under the skin work as the body’s thermostat. When the communication between the Nervous System and the blood vessels is disturbed, it causes the body’s thermostat to malfunction producing an imbalanced temperature reading along the spine.
Heart Rate Variability Analysis
HRV (Heart Rate Variability analysis) testing is a fully automated cardiac monitoring device that provides a quantitative assessment of variation in the time interval between heartbeats. It is measured by the variation in the beat-to-beat interval. HRV testing enables Chiropractors to detect specific types of autonomic dysfunction that may be linked to a multitude of clinical assessments.
Radiological Examinations
We also take full spine x-rays (extremity x-ray if needed as well), which provide us with information to determine the condition of your spine and how to specifically correct it. Exceptions to x-ray include our pregnant patients and young children under 7 years of age. We only take full spine x-rays that are unique allowing us to see the entire spine on one film.
The digital x-ray system at our office uses less radiation and increase details for chiropractors to see every detail possible. This not only allows us to see the position of each individual spinal bone but also gives us an overall view of your spine which helps us achieve optimal correction.
